These type of programs can help users to share files and speed up communications between peers, however, it can also affect the network performance dramatically and may expose AUC to legal proceedings if illegal materials were downloaded or stored on AUC property.
To protect the interest of AUC and maintain our quality of network services the university policy to manage and control usage of such programs and prevent the misuse of such programs are as follows:
• Users are prohibited from download or upload any copy righted files, programs, applications, tools, music, images, movies or any other downloadable materials in any form into AUC property. All programs found on AUC computer property should be licensed and legally acquired with proof documents.
• Users are prohibited from download any materials not related to AUC business.
• AUC will reserve the right to use all necessary tools to detect illegal activities and to make sure that this policy is fully adhered to.
• Proven Violators will face appropriate disciplinary action with accordance to the level of violation committed.
The Associate Vice President for Computing (AVP) is responsible for investigating alleged violations of the guidelines. The AVP may also refer the case to the appropriate office for further disciplinary action up to and including expulsion or cancellation of appointment. The appropriate offices are: Provost’s Office for faculty, Human Resources for staff and Vice President for Student Affairs for students.
