Computer Accounts

All university administrators, faculty, staff, and students are eligible to open an e-mail account, free of charge, on one of the different E-mail and Internet servers available at UNS, depending upon the user category.

How to open an e-mail/or Dial in account?

Administrators, Faculty members, staff and Students who wish to open an email/ or dial in account have to go to http://unsweb.aucegypt.edu or http://mail.aucegypt.edu for registration. The reference number displayed on the screen during this process should then be presented to Mrs.Ferial Farid or Mrs.Noha Hatem, Hill House, room 302, ext. 5844, 5343, within one week from registration on the web. (Student ID must be presented for student accounts).

Part time faculty, staff and Assistants request an email or dial in account through http://unsweb.aucegypt.edu or http://mail.aucegypt.edu. The form displayed on the screen should then be printed for approval from the department/unit head according to the policy of the university.

If by any chance you forget your password or username, you may request help from the UNS user support team by coming to the UNS user support center located in Hill House, 3 rd floor, Room 302.

Remote Dial-in Services

The UNS is currently maintaining 150 dial-in lines and 30 ISDN lines for the AUC community use for remote access of the university computing and Internet resources. The service is available 24 hours a day 7 days week.

- 27974444 pool of 30 digital lines

- 27979300 or 27979600 pool of 60 lines for ISDN

Technical support over the telephone is available from 8:30 A.M. to 8:30 P.M daily. On Saturdays, support is from 10:00 A.M. to 03:00 P.M.

Network Consultation

The UNS staff provides consultation services to different departments/units to aid in determining the type of connection needed to link the workstations and labs to the University backbone. Requests for this service by departments should be addressed to the Assoc. VP for Computing.

Connectivity

The UNS staff takes all the necessary actions to coordinate/install the physical wiring up to the office workstation or lab equipment. This includes physical path determination, materials and quantities estimation, time frame estimation, negotiation with vendors, until physical connectivity to the Campus backbone is completed.

Network Software installation

The UNS staff configure and install the suitable networking software suite and assign IP numbers according to a predefined set of addresses. The Networking software includes:

  • Windows Network setup
  • Microsoft Network ID setup,
  • IP number assignment and TCP/IP configuration,
  • Web browser installation and configuration,
  • Mailer program installation and configuration,
  • Telnet/Terminal emulator program installation and configuration.

Network Support

  • On-Campus support: The UNS staff supports all the university network users in terms of failure diagnoses and troubleshooting, correcting and maintenance, network software, and user support.

Virtual private network (VPN)

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network.It allows remote users to connect to the Internal network of AUC.

The VPN allows remote users to access services availabe for users inside the AUC Network, such as some library services.
