Double click on the
“My Computer” icon, which is located on the desktop (usually in
the upper left-hand corner).
If you see the Dial-Up
Networking icon then proceed to the section titled Setting Up Communications.
If you do not see the
Dial-Up Networking icon, double click on the Control Panel icon.
When the Control Panel
is open, double click on the “Add/Remove Programs” icon.
After you have opened
Add/Remove Programs, click on the “Windows Setup” tab, which is
located towards the top of the window.
Click once over the
word “Communications” to select it, then click the Details button.
Click on the box next
to Dial-Up Networking once to select it. Once there is a check
mark in the box, click OK. (It does not matter if there are
checks in any of the other boxes.)
This will take you
back to the “Add/Remove Programs Properties” window. Click
OK again. (You may need the Windows 95/98 setup disks or the Windows
95/98 setup CD at this time).
You will get a message
stating that the computer needs to be restarted. Click OK.
If you get a message
that asks you to restart the computer, select “Yes”. When
you restart the computer, make sure there are no disks in the disk
drive.
After rebooting the Control
Panel window will open. If it is not, double click the My Computer
icon and then double click Control Panel.
Setting
Up Communications:
With the Control Panel open, double
click on the Network icon.

If the Control
Panel is not open, double click on ”My Computer” icon and then double
click on the “Control Panel” icon.
If you are in the “Network”
window and a TCP/IP component is already present then proceed to
Configuration of TCP/IP.
If a TCP/IP component
is not present:
When the “Network”
window is open, you will need to click on the Add button.
Select Protocol and
then click Add.
Select Microsoft, then
from the choices on the right, scroll down and select TCP/IP.
Click OK.
Click OK.
Then Click the OK button
to exit the “Network” window.
The computer will then
ask you to reboot, reboot at this time.
Once you have rebooted,
click on the “My Computer” icon and then double click on the “Dial-up
Networking” Icon.
In the Dial-Up Networking
folder you should see an Icon “Make a new Connection”
Double click on this
icon.
This window should
now appear:
For the Name of the
computer you are dialing type AUC.
Click Next.
Please select one phone
number from the last few pages of this documentation. If you need
to dial a number to get an outside line before dialing the phone
number, remember to put that number in
Click Next.
Click Finish.
Once the “AUC” icon
is highlighted.
Click on it once with
the right mouse button, and choose “Properties”.
Remove the check beside
the “Use area code and country code” or “use country code and dialing
properties”
Click on “Configure”,
below the modem name, and go to the “Options” tab, towards the top
of the window.
Put a check beside
“bring up terminal window after dialing”, then click OK.
Click on “Server Types”,
and remove the checks from the boxes beside “Log on to network”,
“IPX/SPX”, and “NETBEUI”
Click OK, then OK again.
Once the “AUC” icon
is highlighted.
Click on “File” and
then go down to the option “Create Shortcut”, and then click once.
When you do this, you
will get a message like the one in the following picture.Select “Yes”.
Double click on the
“AUC” icon.
You don’t need to put
anything in the Username and Password fields
Click the “Connect”
button.The computer will
dial the number and connect to AUC. You will then see a black window,
and you will be prompted to enter your username. Enter it and press
return.
You will be prompted
for your password, enter it (notice that nothing will appear on
the screen) and hit return.
You will get a message
saying “Entering PPP mode”, click continue or F7.
You will get a window
verifying that you are connected.
Note: It is important
NOT to click the disconnect button until you are ready to disconnect
from the AUC network.
